Typography Day 2017

Updated: Apr 15, 2019

Every year artists, designers, enthusiasts and scholars from more than 30 countries get together in a part of India to discuss typography. Initiated by the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai this event, Typography Day, attracts the best of type design and calligraphy talent from around the world.

I was fortunate enough to join the event committee for Typography Day 2017 held for the first time in Sri Lanka, jointly organised by University of Moratuwa my alma mater and IIT Mumbai. Being the first major conference in design organised by our university, we were treading unchartered waters. My job was to act as a liaison between the two organising committees and carry out communications leading up to the conference. We worked 24/7 to make sure everything was just right, stressed out over making everyone comfortable, and had great sessions of sharing and making type with nearly 200 participants.
